VoiceOver 2015 survey on development cooperation

An absolute majority of VoiceOver members considers it important (87%) that rich countries help poor countries to develop.

VoiceOver 2015 wanted to know what people from developing countries think of development issues. That is why we distributed the VoiceOver 2015 questionnaire on development cooperation among its members.

In May 2010 NCDO will publish a full report in which they compare the results from the VoiceOver 2015 questionnaire with the results from its equivalent carried out among Dutch public. Below you can download the conclusions drawn from the VoiceOver 2015 survey.

Some conclusions
VoiceOver members consider the problems in developing countries as so severe that countries as the Netherlands have to step in and do something. Even when there are people living in poverty in their own country....

Discussions in the Millenniumtrain 2009

Can young Dutch people can make a difference in the developing countries?

One of the activities during the Millenniumtour was the discussion in the Millenniumtrain. The eight VoiceOver members who were in the Netherlands during this week also joined these discussions.

 

The discussions took place in a 6 persons train cabin. Each group consisted of one moderator, four young Dutch participants and one VoiceOver-member. The topic of the discussion was how young Dutch people can make a difference in the developing countries. The main question was whether or not they are the most likely people to offer support and stimulate those in less wealthy parts of the world...

“South” has more confidence in development cooperation than the “North” has

Unique research compares opinions of respondents from developing countries to those of the Dutch about international development cooperation.

Both the Dutch (68%) as the respondents from developing countries (87%) believe that rich countries need to provide aid to poor countries so that they have a chance to develop them selves. Respondents from developing countries do however have more faith in structural contribution than their Dutch counterparts, respectively 50% vs. 18%.  These are the results from a study conducted among 249 persons from developing countries that where compared to the results from the annual “Barometer Internationale Samenwerking”. Both studies where performed in 2009 and commissioned by NCDO.
